More Uptown and Further Down West

Paul Seed

Bideford born and now Torrington resident, two time BAFTA winning television drama director Paul Seed really doesn’t like London very much but loves North Devon….however, he does take huge pleasure in finding fascinating and often beautiful images in both places. The almost silent snap of a shutter, that unique instant in time which can hold within it an extraordinarily complex story, as wondrous a thing as a mosquito trapped in an amber bead.  For an insight to Paul's motivation take a look at this interview by documentary maker Martin Pailthorpe then come and see the exhibition. more

Woodcut Prints

Julian Witts

I live beside the sea in the North Devon village of Lee. I have always drawn and painted, but it was the Printmaking course some years ago at The Plough that sparked a passion for woodcuts. I find inspiration in the natural world far and near, and the creatures we share it with.

I cut my design into the maple board with a knife and a few small gouges, making... more

We are three local artists who are friends. Our work is inspired by our recognition of the spirit within everything, the human condition and our relationship with nature. We want to celebrate different life forms and stages of life: respecting and recognizing the cycle of life and our interconnectedness with all living sentient beings. Between us, we use a range of media including: charcoal, chalk and graphite, acrylic watercolour and oil paint, oil... more

Photographs from Edukid Projects

Downstairs on the Artists Wall

Edukid are a locally based UK charity that supports children who live in poverty or conflict in Cambodia, Uganda and Palestine.

We enable around 2,000 children to have an education and have been running trips out for supporters to meet the children for the last 13 years.

This exhibition aims to show an insight into the lives of the children in our projects, and the joy of helping them.

We hope that when people see these photos and read the stories behind them, they also might be inspired to become involved.more

'Leaving Home, Finding Home?'

Paintings by Henrietta Job, Photographs by Freddie Job

Henrietta Job's vibrant, moving and thought provoking acrylic paintings, and Freddie Job's masterful documentary photography capture the journey of refugees as they search for a new home.

Mother and son are collaborating for the first time to raise awareness of the millions of people globally who are fleeing war. The number of people currently displaced in this way is unprecedented in our time.

Grief, strength, vulnerability and hope figure strongly in both of their work.more
