These Are Not Doormats...

An exhibition of rug hooked wall hangings and rugs

Curated by textile artist, Jill Denton this exhibition is a celebration of hand hooked rugs created by rughookers from Devon & Cornwall. This craft is becoming increasingly popular as many makers are adopting the centuries-old techniques to create beautiful, colourful rugs, thus elevating the craft to a contemporary art form.

On Saturday 12 November there will be an Open Day and “Hook In” from 11am -3pm, to which any rughookers, would-be rughookers or anyone interested in art, craft, textiles and colour is invited.  Don’t miss this opportunity... more

Unquiet Life

Part of North Devon Art Trek 2016

Richard Meyer and Eilean Eland

Richard Meyer has exhibited his vibrant and sometimes provocative oil paintings at The Plough twice before. Unquiet Life focuses on 'Still lifes' which are actually anything but 'still'; his paintings are often richly impastoed and as much about the plasticity of oil paint as subject matter.

Eilean Eland’s ceramic sculpture is energetic and very personal, inspired by fecundity in the female form and in nature. The pieces are semi-abstract and refer to growth and re-growth as a metaphor for the reshaping of identity, with a strong assertion... more

Marianne Edwards - Pastels & Jan Lye - Ceramics

The Devon based artist Marianne Edwards has captured the stunning scenery of South West landscapes and the coastline for more than half a century and is holding an exhibition of her latest paintings this July at The Plough Arts Centre alongside the work of ceramicist, Jan Lye.

 

Marianne focuses on countryside scenery in pastels, including tree-lined valleys, narrow lanes and rolling hills.
