“Journey-Lines unravel on the canvas. Pathways change colour. Unfolded buildings represent thoughts, ideas, and emotion. Reflections are shown as many faceted stones. The canvas is a body where miniature figures from the imagination of sleep step forward and reach for the sun and stars of realisation. Moons and dreams light the way. Layers bring clarity where new forms can be found.”

“This exhibition, celebrating my eightieth birthday, can be seen as an extension of the 2015 retrospective at RAMM in Exeter. The work again focuses on my technique of constructing thee dimensional forms that become the point of departure for each painting. The structures also become the space in which I can develop ideas. In the process of the making I can manipulate and alter shapes and colours and directions of light with total freedom until a conclusion is made. The structures are then acutely observed and the painting begins; and when painting is finished the structure has served... more

Light can be explained as behaving both as a wave and as a particle. This exhibition features new and existing paintings and drawings that incorporate these ideas through observational studies of the sea, water, coastline, landscape, and organic abstraction.
The work is a celebration of the coast and land with its varied elemental qualities, and engages with concepts of chaos, complexity, tranquillity, perception and metaphor. The work is produced through observation and the intuitive creative process.

Some decades ago I was living in Hong Kong. It was here that I met a very strict, but wonderful Chinese art teacher. I moved to Devon, about four years ago, to live in a bungalow after many years of ill health. The Rheumatology Dept. diagnosed the “disease with a thousand faces”, Lupus. Thanks to rheumatology (NDDH), the rheumatology O.T. and the physiotherapist at Bideford Hospital plus my GP at Bideford, I once again paint on my good days.
I have put on joint exhibitions in Hong Kong, America and England, then a number of solo exhibitions, at St George’s Hall, Bristol and in... more
