Artist's Wall Exhibition

Tanya Landman

Carnegie Medal winning Tanya Landman is the author of more than thirty books for children and young adults.
She now lives and works in Bideford.

"A warm sunset spills over a vast, violent sea. Skeleton trees are caught mid movement in the wind, their branches reaching to a moon cloaked beneath cloud. Storms, cliffs, wildlife, and even the occasional labrador are key subjects in the watercolours of Tanya Landman.

Landman’s artwork combines an ability to capture natural light in all its intricacies with a love of the landscapes around her. A distinct... more

ALLAN VONDRAN-DAVIES

Paintings, drawings and sculptures by Allan Vondran-Davies from 1989 to 2014.

“The title for the exhibition is taken from a novel by Nigel Watts.  My work raises

questions about conflict, uncertainty and impermanence in what we see, feel, and

believe. In the portraits I focus my interest on the intimacy of family and relation-

ships and my recent paintings of Greenpeace activists address broader concerns about the

ANDREA McLEAN

“Journey-Lines unravel on the canvas. Pathways change colour. Unfolded buildings represent thoughts, ideas, and emotion. Reflections are shown as many faceted stones. The canvas is a body where miniature figures from the imagination of sleep step forward and reach for the sun and stars of realisation. Moons and dreams light the way. Layers bring clarity where new forms can be found.”

Andrea McLean studied painting at Falmouth Art School and the Slade School of Art followed by a scholarship year at The British School at Rome. She has worked as Artist in... more

BENEDICT RUBBRA

“This exhibition, celebrating my eightieth birthday, can be seen as an extension of the 2015 retrospective at RAMM in Exeter. The work again focuses on my technique of constructing thee dimensional forms that become the point of departure for each painting.  The structures also become the space in which I can develop ideas. In the process of the making I can manipulate and alter shapes and colours and directions of light with total freedom until a conclusion is made. The structures are then acutely observed and the painting begins; and when painting is finished the structure has served... more
