Christmas Craft Fair

The annual Plough Christmas Craft Fair in the main gallery is back! Opening at 10 and running through until 8 everyday except Sundays and Mondays we'll be presenting a facinating cross section of local craft.  There will always be some makers in the gallery to answer questions and have a chat. We are also holding a three day extension to the craft fair in the auditorium on Thursday 09, Friday 10 and Saturday morning. A special event with extra work and surprise guests.more

Alice and Emily Haworth-Booth

This show has been timed to co-incide with COP 26.  Emily Haworth-Booth is an award-winning author, illustrator and educator who teaches at the Royal Drawing School in London, England.  Her short comics have previously appeared in print in the Observer and Vogue. Along with her sister, Alice Haworth-Booth, she is an activist with Extinction Rebellion. Alice won the 2020 Brick Lane Bookshop Short story Prize last year. Tim is mainly a landscape artist who works from North Devon and occasionally from elsewhere in Europe.  A couple of years ago he began to explore a different landscape – that of cafes and bars and the fellow social animals within.

Pavel Isupov

 Pavel Isupov is a recent graduate of Edinburgh College of Art where he was a Hix Finalist, won  the John Byrne Award and was featured in the RSA New Contemporaries exhibition.

In  January we were aiming to show Portraits of Torrington by Shan Miller which had to be  postponed from October. Now we can finally go ahead.

20 years ago Shan Miller painted a series of portraits of some of Torrington's characters. She has reunited most of them  and is also presenting photographs from the original preview over 20 years ago which will bring back memories for many of us.more

A Mixed Media Show 2021

This is the first time the family trio of artists have exhibited their diverse range of work together. Veterans of national and international exhibitions and commissions, Helyne, mixed media and textile artist, and Trevor Jennings, metal sculptor, will feature work spanning from the RCA in the 80’s to recently completed pieces. Their daughter Elise, creating work from recycled materials and with a love of textiles, will feature her vibrant range of jewellery and multi coloured felt vessels.

The rendered vessels are a fascinating point of entry into the sorts of considerations mentioned earlier - the sculptural, the figurative, the pastoral, the autobiographical, and so on. We see about these forms the unmistakeable depiction of pastoral scenes in which flora, such as woodland or forestry might dominate. Or we see mark-making that carries with it resonances of denser, entangled undergrowth. Landmarks II

Bill Stewart

Bill Stewart studied at Goldsmiths and the R A Schools winning the RAS Gold Medal for ‘excellence in painting’, David Murray Landscape award and Edward Stott travel scholarship. He has exhibited his work regularly over the years since, in solo and group shows. His paintings have been displayed multiple times in the RA's summer exhibition and Bill was selected to exhibit in John Moores 60 in 2018 in Liverpool.
