We Stood Around

The rendered vessels are a fascinating point of entry into the sorts of considerations mentioned earlier - the sculptural, the figurative, the pastoral, the autobiographical, and so on. We see about these forms the unmistakeable depiction of pastoral scenes in which flora, such as woodland or forestry might dominate. Or we see mark-making that carries with it resonances of denser, entangled undergrowth. At all times though, we as viewers are made aware that the paintings contain stories, possibly even secrets, to which we might only have partial access. As

Landmarks II

Bill Stewart

Bill Stewart studied at Goldsmiths and the R A Schools winning the RAS Gold Medal for ‘excellence in painting’, David Murray Landscape award and Edward Stott travel scholarship. He has exhibited his work regularly over the years since, in solo and group shows. His paintings have been displayed multiple times in the RA's summer exhibition and Bill was selected to exhibit in John Moores 60 in 2018 in Liverpool.

After studying art at the Byam Shaw in London Mia Stewart-Wilson later went on to live in the Far East.   She studied with Shodo Master, Kôshû Marioka in Japan.  Moving on to Hong Kong and then South Korea she was influenced by many brush painting artists. Nicky Montagu

Nicky Montagu is a printmaker living in North Devon whose art combines collagraph, dry point & etching. Her work is inspired by the memory of observations made while living on the tidal estuary. It’s pared down simplicity coming out of the solitude of viewing the landscape. She focusses on elements within the landscape and evokes a meditative sense within her work. This could be the changing tide, reflections in the water, the transient states of fading light or the patterns observed in stones or ripples in the water. Roger Davies

Roger Davies has been working as a sign writer all over England, although particularly in and around Great Torrington since the late 1950’s – and is still producing wonderful hand-painted signs for the town. This show will include examples of his craftsmanship as well as photographs from the past.  Roger will be giving a demonstration of his craft in the gallery from 10am - 1pm on  Saturday October 12th and 26th.
