The Plough Arts Centre Re-Closes!
After planning to reopen with a bang on Bonfire Night with a flurry of national comedians, films, music, exhibitions, and workshops The Plough Arts Centre in Great Torrington, Devon is now making plans to remain closed at least until 10 Dec.
After being closed for almost eight months and being forced to implement extensive redundancies, The Plough Arts Centre in Great Torrington is about to reopen with a bang on Bonfire Night, with a busy but socially-distanced programme of live events, film screenings, exhibitions and workshops.
The Plough Arts Centre’s Chair, John Eeles has just announced “Following a consultation period during the summer, it is with deep regret that trustees of the Registered Charity have been left with no choice but to make 15 highly valued members of staff redundant, as the only course of action likely to give the organisation a fair chance of survival in the medium term. Many of the staff have been long serving and through no fault of their own have now lost their jobs which is distressing for all concerned.”

The Plough Arts Centre’s Chair, John Eeles has just announced “It is with real sadness and regret that the trustees of The Plough Arts Centre, which is a Registered Charity, have today been forced to issue 'warning of redundancy' notices to our loyal staff.”
Back on the first of February 2020, The Plough Arts Centre announced that it was facing financial difficulties due to a gradual rise in core costs and a long term decline in its core income. Although audiences had risen by 55% in five years, it was facing an uncertain future and running a deficit, which threatened to close the much loved venue in Great Torrington.
