Plough Youth Theatre: Lightning Strike
Summer 1888 and Eliza is angry. Angry that her family never seems to have enough. Angry that conditions at the factory where she works are so harsh. Angry that no one seems to care. When Eliza speaks out, her words spark fury among the other workers and the flame of rebellion is lit. Can one girl inspire an uprising that will change her world?
Inspired by the match girls' strike in July 1888, this story brings to life Victorian Britain, with themes of courage, standing up for what you believe in, and family, written by local Carnegie Medal winning author Tanya Landman.
As part of the exciting program of events happening this spring across The Plough Arts Centre and Barnstaple Museum, focused on protest and activism.
Plough Youth Theatre are delighted to deliver this performance which has been produced as part of our Play-in-a-Week experience.
