Lightning Strike - Play in a Week (11 -18 Yrs)
Play in a Week!
Join the Plough Youth Theatre for something different this February half term!
As part of the exciting program of events happening this spring across The Plough Arts Centre and Barnstaple Museum, focused on protest and activism, PYT is delighted to be offering a Play-in-a-Week experience, culminating in a performance at the Fringe Extra festival at The Plough@StAnne's!
Back in October we did a play in a day of Lightning Strike by Tanya Landman and realised it would be a great project to delve deeper into.
Summer 1888 and Eliza is angry. Angry that her family never seems to have enough. Angry that conditions at the factory where she works are so harsh. Angry that no one seems to care. When Eliza speaks out, her words spark fury among the other workers and the flame of rebellion is lit. Can one girl inspire an uprising that will change her world?
Inspired by the match girls' strike in July 1888, this story brings to life Victorian Britain, with themes of courage, standing up for what you believe in, and family, written by local Carnegie Medal winning author Tanya Landman.
Young people aged 11-18 years old are invited to join us on:
Monday 12th, Tues 13th, Wednesday 14th February, 11am - 5pm to develop and produce the play.
Friday the 16th February, 1pm - 5pm, with a public performance at 4pm as part of Fringe Extra.
This project is being funded by The National Lottery community fund and The Arts Council, so the cost to participate is subsidised and is only £20 for the whole week. Tickets for the public performance are £8 / £6 (supporters).
Booking is essential and spaces are limited.
