There's an opportunity for everyone at The Plough Youth Theatre!

Autumn 2025 Term Dates

11 September - 18 December

Half Term (No sessions): 25 - 31 October

The Plough Youth Theatre provides exciting opportunities for Drama and Theatre Arts for 5-18 year olds in rural North Devon. Our provision includes the main theatre workshops for all ages, creative dance sessions, and a creative writing group, as well as holiday workshops and the PYT Summer Show! Please find all links and contact below.

We believe that the performing arts encourage confidence, communication, team work, and individuality. Our workshops have a keen focus on self expression and creativity, celebrating participation, and building strong performance and theatre skills.

Each group will work on age appropriate performances to family and friends, the public, and the older groups may participate in the National Theatre Connections programme, which can offer opportunities to perform in Plymouth and London. - Our creative journey begins with our Infant youth theatre for 5-7 year olds where we build on imagination, creativity and performance skills, producing sharing performances for family and friends.

- Next stop, the Junior youth theatre workshops for 8-11 year olds, where children work on a range of performance and theatre skills, culminating in public performances and a summer production.

- For 11-14 years, we have our “middlies” youth theatre group, which will be working on contemporary performance art, incorporating musical theatre, drama, storytelling, physical theatre and more to create exciting public performances.

- Finally, young people move into our Senior Youth Theatre company at around 14 years old, where they will explore experimental theatre, comedic acting, pantomime, new writing, classic theatre, and more. Participants build a strong and diverse range of performance skills in acting,  drama and theatre arts.

- Creative Dance: These popular classes give young people the opportunity to express themselves, tell stories and learn performance skills through a variety of dance styles and genres. Relaxed and fun, with exciting performance opportunities. Creative Dance is a mixed ability session for 8-18 year olds focused on choreography and devising dance theatre.

- Writing for Performance: This exciting new term of creative writing workshops will be will give young people tools and skill development across a variety of creative and performative writing, such as   poetry,  song writing, writing for film, developing narrative, writing comedy, improvisation to script, writing characters, and spoken word performance. Through the term, young people will have the opportunity to work on their own project, with experienced practitioners on hand to offer critiques, feedback and constructive development ideas. It is a very exciting project for anyone interested in performance and creative writing, whether their interest is in drama, dance, music or theatre making as a whole!
