Plough Storytelling Circle: Told by an Idiot
The world is full of fools, and the skilled tellers of the Plough Storytelling Circle will be bringing you stories of just a few of them. From across the world and round the corner, these tales address the age old question - is it better to be witty fool or a foolish wit?
The Plough Storytelling Circle meets on the first Thursday evening of every month in the atmospheric setting of St Anne’s Chapel here in Barnstaple. It is a lively forum for the sharing of stories. Some come to tell and others to listen to folk tales from all over the world, mythology, modern stories and even personal experiences. But whatever kind of story it is, they are all told in the time honoured tradition of the oral storyteller - from memory. And memories being what they are, probably a little bit differently to the last time it was told!
We also provide storytellers for local events and have told at such occasions as the Clovelly Herring Festival, Torrington 1646, Appledore Book Festival and the Exeter Respect Festival. But our very first public performance was at the 2019 Theatrefest. We were terrified but it turned out we loved it and haven’t looked back! So our hearts will always belong to Theatrefest.
