Crankies & Kamishibai from Sara Hurley & Wendy Dacre

Sara and Wendy specialise in telling stories with pictures, song and spoken word.

Sara is a Kamishibai storyteller, a Japanese form using picture cards.

Wendy is a Crankie maker and singer, a crankie is a rolling scroll story.

Workshop 2-4pm

Make a mini crankie - create your own moving story scroll in a decorated box.

An intergenerational workshop where we will share the making.

Please note that places are limited for the workshop so booking is essential.

Show 6-7.30pm

Come and enjoy a spell-binding medley of stories and songs on scrolling crankies and sliding picture cards. These are charming ways of illustrating stories and music that we, among other artists, storytellers and musicians, are now exploring.

We will show you the everyday mechanics of our crankies and kamishibai, tell of their history, and give you a taste of their captivating charm - and you can have a go yourself.
