'Muse' is a play exploring the relationships between an artist, his model, his business partner and the model's boyfriend.
Muse is a contemporary piece examining art and the art market and a possible role for 'the Muse' in our time. By tradition going all the way back to the Greeks, the 'Muse' - invariably female - acted as some kind of inspiration for the work of the artist - invariably male. How the 'Muse' performed this feat is something of a mystery since her role was usually passive and uninvolved in the production of the art. Could such a relationship exist today? Unlikely and certainly not to be wished for, so how might a Muse/Artist relationship play out in our time? Jay, from Black Box, considered some possibilities and 'Muse' tells the story of one of them.

Troll

A woman is baking cupcakes.

A knock on the door.

Time for her to tell her story. She's been the perfect mother, hasn't she?

And who called the police?

Troll is a dark comedy, in which one woman’s perceptions of her perfect daughter (and her perfect parenting) do not match the reality. Written by the author of our 2024 Theatrefest submission, Woman Caught Unaware, we take a look into Carol’s world: what shaped it, and whether she is emotionally prepared to deal with the consequences.
