Art Meets Action!

Come and be inspired by Sarah Corbett's Craftivist Collective! Plough Curator Grace Rodgers will share the story of how the craftivist movement was seeded and how it has evolved into a global movement for peaceful protest.  We welcome you to draw inspiration from the poem 'Dangerous Coats' by author Sharon Owens: What message will your pocket carry? What might be inside...? Come and share as you sew, and we will weave together our individual messages into a powerful collective mural titled 'Seditious Pockets', which will be displayed on the Artists Wall throughout March. The workshop will be lead by exhibiting artist Claire Gladstone and fellow Artist Practitioner Melinda Schwakhofer - Book now to avoid dissappointment!

As part of the workshop, local women's Art Collective 'Rising Tide' will speak about their work, alongside the Noth Devon Craftivists. Rose Young-French, a black British woman who is passionate about broadening the scope of inclusion into all spheres of community life, will be sharing exciting news about her project - A Sense Of Nature, which is a nature connection group specially for women from Black, Asian, and diverse backgrounds to enjoy exploring natural environments in and around Bideford alongside a group of supportive women.

Dangerous Coats

Someone clever once said Women were not allowed pockets

In case they carried leaflets

To spread sedition

Which means unrest To you & me

A grandiose word For commonsense Fairness Kindness Equality

So ladies, start sewing Dangerous coats Made of pockets & sedition.

- Sharon Owens
