Written and directed by Leo Leigh (2023) Stars Maggie O’Neill, Tony Pitts and Harry Trevaldwyn
SWEET SUE is the latest film from BIFA-nominated writer and director Leo Leigh, an intimate comedy-drama that delves into finding love late in life. Starring Maggie O’Neill, (Shameless, Unforgotten), together with Tony Pitts (Peaky Blinders, Funny Cow) and Harry Trevaldwyn (The King, Ten Percent).

Sue (O’Neill) is now back on the dating scene. She meets a mysterious biker called Ron (Pitts) at her brother’s funeral and sparks fly. But when Ron introduces her to his social-media focused son Anthony (Trevaldwyn), Sue finds herself in an increasingly surreal battle of wills with this ambitious teenager who, despite showing no signs of talent, is convinced that his dance troupe ‘Electric Destiny’ is tipped for stardom. Will she find the purpose and imagination to bring this little unconventional family together for a chance at happiness?
Running time 105 minutes
  • "a satisfying, spiky portrait of a complex, lonely woman...the film’s uncomfortable, minor-key humour will be a selling point for audiences" Screen Daily
  • "Leigh manages to capture a group of flawed, lonely, and vulnerable people and give them attention...the audience is sure to be raising a glass to Sue" Alliance of Women Film Journalists
  • "an entirely palpable and relatable tale of broken homes and impromptu alliances....with subtle and effective comments on gender, class and sexuality" DMovies
  • "Filmed with a realism that dad would be proud of, Sweet Sue is the rebellious cousin to Happy-Go-Lucky" Filmink
