The future for the last remaining pub, The Old Oak, in a village of Northeast England, where people are leaving the land as the mines are closed. Houses are cheap and available, thus making it an ideal location for Syrian refugees.
After both screenings on 20th October, there is an option to watch a free 10 min short film from The Pickwell Foundation: 'The Lost Guide', followed by a short Q&A about their work with refugees with Steph Molligoda, the Dispersal Lead at The Pickwell Foundation. There will also be a free exhibition of photos from the period in our Meeting Room from Tuesday 17 - Friday 20 October.
The Pickwell Foundation is a local charity dedicated to supporting refugees and asylum seekers seeking sanctuary in North Devon. They recently had the privilege of helping to support the wellbeing of residents at an Ilfracombe Hotel housing people seeking asylum. To document their work and raise awareness, they produced this short 10-minute film that encapsulates their experience during that period.
