Most creatives do not want to see themselves as a business, but creating a portfolio, defining your buyers and dealing with licensing & copywrite in the age of AI is critical. This session will also cover details about setting up a business including tax and sole trading to help you navigate the ever-changing world of business support and survival.

Phil Parker – A Short Bio
In 2021 he co-founded Artmakers, with Hilary Beecroft, to support artists in northern Devon. Phil is one of Europe’s most distinguished independent film & TV development consultants. Clients have included Aardman Animation, BBC, Creative England, Luxx Studios; Berlin Brandenburg Medianboard, PRIME India, and Eurimage. He is currently Screenplay Group Leader for CEE Animation and consultant on several independent film & TV projects. Phil ran MA Screenwriting at University of the Arts London 1994-2004. In 2000 he set up the UK Film’s Council’s £1m Development Training Fund. Publications include the ‘Art and Science of Screenwriting’ (intellect), and ‘Introduction to Screenwriting’ (UK Film Council). Screenwriter ‘Manou the Swift’ animated feature.
Hilary Beecroft - A Short Bio
Hilary started out in theatre, theatre education & community work leading into 10 years in law and then retrained as a landscape architect designing and project managing landscapes for public spaces. For the last 5 years, Hilary and Phil have worked together building ArtMakers and running Art Upstairs artist run gallery in Bideford.
