The Postman Poet: A Celebration of the Life & Songs of Edward Capern
Edward Capern was a humble postman whose poems and songs, written while walking the rural lanes of North Devon on his daily round in the mid-19th century, won plaudits from the Prime Minister and the support of the biggest literary names of the day. He was to become known nationally as the Postman Poet and was referred to as ‘the Devonian Burns’.
Author Liz Shakespeare has written, The Postman Poet, a novel based on his life, and collaborated with musicians Nick Wyle and Becki Driscoll, resulting in their CD The Songs of Edward Capern. All three will bring Capern vividly back to life with this delightfully vibrant entertainment of words and music.
“Combining fiction, social history, and biography, The Postman Poet is an engaging and entertaining read that both brings a lump to one’s throat and joy to the heart. Highly recommended.”
