Calligraphy Workshop - A Day on Unicals

£40.00
Booking essential!
book online

Tutor: Jo Turner

One day workshop on Uncial script.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some experience of calligraphy

The Uncial hand dates back to the 5th century and is seen in manuscripts such as the Book of Kells. This is an unusual script since it is neither miniscule nor majuscule but a single alphabet which in its contemporary form lends itself to some decorative and distinctive designs. Most commonly associated with Celtic art, knotwork and writing. We will be using a broad edged nib, ink and gouache to create a small inscription. Please bring a short ( 4 lines max) quotation you might like to write out.

All materials for the day are provided. Option to purchase items to take home with you. Please bring anything you already have and wish to use or have comment on.

Please make your own arrangements for lunch – packed lunch is ideal.
